The Harbour

Halifax Citadel

Being one of Canada’s most visited historic sites, the star-shaped Halifax Citadel dates back to 1749. With tons of Instagrammable moments, the site looks over the harbour. The citadel gives us a peak into what life looked like for soldiers who once lived and worked in the fort. Make sure you visit around noon so you can witness the noontime cannon fire salute.

Inner-City Hiking

If you’re looking to escape the urban feel of the city but don’t want venture out too far, take a hike at Duncan’s Coveor Long Lake Provincial Parkwhich are a super short 15-20 minute drive. With its beautiful coastal views and roaring waves, taking a hike here will sure to be memorable.

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

When visiting a historic location, it’s always interesting to see what makes it historic. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, located on the waterfront, lets you witness maritime heritage via naval and shipbuilding exhibits. For those of your who are fascinated by the Titanic, there are two displays paying tribute to Halifax’s role in the 1912 disaster along with several preserved artifacts.

Day Trips

If you’re looking to get out of the city for a day and see what the rest of the province has to offer, there are a ton of options for fun day trips you can take. From Peggy’s Cove with its iconic lighthouse, to hitting up a farmer’s market in Truro, the options are scenic and endless.
